Mt. Bizan Do you know why it is called Bizan? Its name comes from eyebrow. In 734, the emperor Junnin’s brother came to Awa with the emperor Shoumu. At the time, he saw Mt. Bizan and he got the impression that it looked like the eyebrow of a woman.
But people called it Mt. Sako and Mt. Hachiman until the late Edo Period. From the Meiji Period afterward, they called it “Bizan”. One novelist who was born in Tokushima said, “This gentle mountain which looks like an eyebrow softens our heart.” Mt. Bizan will continue to soften our heart with its beauty. Go to Top Page There are several ways to climb Mt. Bizan - by car, aerial cableway and on foot. For people who don’t want to walk, cars are very good. You can go to the top of the mountain on Route 192 and 438. But the best way is aerial cableway. You can enjoy a ride of about 6 minutes as you talk or see the beautiful view.
